DrupalCon 2010 + 2011
To quote Robert Douglas who is on of the working force behind the new european selection process
The important point in all of this is the level of openness and transparancy that is being brought to the system.
So to be in thread with the openness and transparency this post will explain why the Danes (with full support of the Swedish communtity) is stepping up now and why we havent done before, and why we want this Drupalcon bad!
Why Copenhagen ?
- size
We needed a local community that was large enough, not only by the number of people, but having enough "leaders" that could carry a project in that size. At the same time it was important that we had enough of copenhagen inhabitants, so meetings etc is just a bike ride away. We got that group! - Experience
We needed the experience in figuring out the inner workings camps (and all that can go wrong - so we can fix it)
Now after having 2 sold out DrupalCamps (2008,2009), with a ambition level of swag, location, food, service and fooBAR level thats in (and sometimes over) a conference level.
We have done the homework - so were now throwing the danish speaking Drupaldag here this weekend, so we have a small local meetup, it is easier for danes just to talk danish with eachother ... and still the swedesh & americans are still showing up - hey what can we do ;) - In the know
Connections and lots of them! local & international (ordering swag by yellow pages is not a good thing)
A lot of stuff is easier to get done when you know where to go and who to talk to, and its even easier, when you know the person. - We feel now that the spiderweb is big enough for us to reach out - and its goddamn hard to go into those long boats every time. - The right vision
We dont see drupalCon just as a confrence!
We see them as music festivals Where the social is as important for attendees as the sessions. There are have attendees that never makes it to the sessions, but there just at the drupalcon hanging out with the other drupallers - check the hallways next time ;) The social is a thing we have perfected!
Besides that we should have a vision of what we want the DrupalCon to be - from the amount and type of sessions, to setting the standards in green camps.
Since drupalcon paris (actually the first ideas started in DC/DC) we have been talking ideas and bounched them off eachother. - Energy
And yes we have the Energy!
First we talked about proposing for Drupalcon in 2011, so we had alot of time to perfect every little element. But after talk over the 10 man & woman dinner the last night before deadline, there was no doubt: We are all ready running slowly So Lets us just kick this up in gear.
The vision is clear in the Copenhagen proposal read it and do you have any Questions or comments please write it in the comments at the groups site http://groups.drupal.org/node/28102
A The big fat fun race
Its propably not a big surprice for those on twitter (that follow me or other drupalisticas) that the danish community have been trying to start a good old fight with the English community aka "the #drupalconwar" (we sure missed ze germans in zat one - but im pretty sure they are comming) So far it have been a lot of fun, and the copenhagen working group really get on their toes up to the deadline :)
The Choice is clear right?

Even the polls give us that result
Okay seriously, if the community dont think we have the skills to lift up the Drupalcon to the level we wanna bring it, we will still strive forward and implement the concept at the DrupalcampCopenhagen in may 21-23, but Drupalcon deserves a couple of days cph!

Transparency in the city selection
I hope that if you are interested in the upcoming drupalcons in europe, you will read the proposals, its our conference, so its now you should see what these 3 beautiful citys can give you.
The European coordinate group http://groups.drupal.org/european-regional-drupalcon-organizers and offcourse on irc: drupal-drupalcon
So to be in that spirit of The proposals from the 3 citys:
- Copenhagen: http://drupalcon.dk/cph/node/35 pdf
- London: http://groups.drupal.org/node/28098 pdf
- Berlin http://groups.drupal.org/node/28210 pdf
The proposals will be weighted by the scorecard and will be done in total transparency.
May the best Copenhagen win ;)
the official debate: http://groups.drupal.org/node/28240
updates Full transparency
We have decided that we dont wanna keep our info or ideas to our self, and if our "competitors" wanna grap our ideas and make them better, then its all in the spirit of open Source - so Copenhagen 2010 is now "walking the walk & talking the talk"

It was pretty amazing to work
It was pretty amazing to work on the Copenhagen proposal. To see 12 people from the professional Danish Drupal community take off work early with two days notice to meet up and write the proposal collaboratively gave me a warm fuzzy feeling about organizing. I can't wait until the decision is in!
Der er et yndigt land, det står med brede bøge
You're spot on about DrupalCon being like a music festival. (And last time I was there, I remember the choirs being pretty awesome.)
Haven't we had enough DrupalCons in English-speaking locales as is? I say go Copenhagen and Berlin.
Berlin for the next one.
